I haven't checked out the clearance on my '80, but I don't think it's any worse than on the newer cars. A standard 1/2" drive breaker bar, on a short 6-point socket with a LONG cheater made of 1.5" square steel tubing should do the trick. Lock the flywheel with a prybar up through the hole in the bottom of the clutch housing, or use a flywheel locking device like they show in the manual. If you use a long enough cheater, more than 500 ft pounds of torque will be easy to obtain. Just be sure the breaker bar and socket are good quality.
I would definitely not put myself under the car, both because working from above is easier, and because the torque required could dump the car off the jack stands.
