Breaking info!
I checked carefully again the ohmage (?) thru the seat both plug to plug and also plug to chassis. Now I am getting much lower resistance readings (car in garage at 20 deg. F and I am awake). Thru the seat only now I read about 2.3 ohms, and thru seat to chassis I read (after scratching on floor bolt) about 2.8 ohms! This tells me I have a good seat cushion and ground. Do you agree?
Next I checked the resistance of the feedback (thermostat or thermistor) and it reads about 900-950 ohms, until heat is switched on, at which time the reading goes offscale on the digital VOM. This of course is with all hooked up to the controller. This appears to contradict the info. on the TOwnsend link, where he says the #6 pin from controller should have continuitiy to ground if thermostat is good & CLOSED.
Last clue, when the heat is turned on in the cold vehicle, it applied 10.97 volts to the seat for almost 6 minutes before the controller shut it down; stayed off about 2 minutes and then cycled back on for about 2 more minutes. When I scroll the wheel up & down I hear an electrical crackling inside the unit. The voltage stays up the whole time. I am inclined to recover the seat & let the wife testdrive it tomorrow to see if the heat can be felt in the cold.
Hoping this inspires some incredible thoughts,
DET
