I was getting a jump on my car and I touched the positive cable to the negative terminal for a brief half second. Needless to say I saw some sparks. What kind of damage could I have caused? Also, last night my car started to act strange after about 30 min of driving. This is what would happen...

-When I would press the brake my headlights would dim for a brief second and my radio would cut out for a quick second.
-Turning signals would cause the same thing.
-My engine seemed to hesitate when I switched on the blower motor and passed the "max speed" vent selection on my way to "floor vent" selection.
-I could no longer accelarate with the cruise control but it would still maintain speed.
-There was also this strange whining sound that sounded like it was coming from behind the radio. I don't think it was the blower motor because I would shut it off and I could still hear the noise. This was RPM sensitive. The higher the RPM resulted in a higher pitch. The sound was similar to the sound I heard when I needed a new voltage regulator. Before replacing that I would here a similar sound and my all my lights (inside and out) would get brighter and burn out some bulbs.

After pulling over I shut the car off and turned it back on. The sound was gone along with all the symptoms described above. Does anyone have any idea what I may have damaged or what could be going wrong? I want to fix this as soon as possible 'cause I have a trip planned for New Years and will need to drive to Canada. Thanks to everyone that replies. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Looking forward to continue my participation on this BB for another year.
