Once the knee bolster is dropped, it's easy.
You undo 3 of 4 torx screws on the front of the inner door opening on the passenger side. You may need to unscrew the door sill plate. Then you pull the carpet away and it's right there.
In addition to controlling the injector pulse width, it also controls the fuel pump and a few other things associated with the fuel system.
Unfortunately, the '89 ECU (as we've learned to call it on TSN) is subject to a host of ills. Some of them last forever, others don't. I'm waiting for the one on my '89 900T to go south. Wait a minute ... it *is* South [Atlanta, that is].
Before you spend money replacing the ECU, what are the symptoms that makes your mechanic think that it's the bad part?
