Diana,
Make sure the alarm works first before you go looking for remotes. Look under the back seat for the black alarm box. It is about the center of the car. Remove the screw with the tool in the trunk. Flip it over taking care not to unplug anything. The bottom of the alarm box should have a cover which can be removed with your finger. Under the cover should be 2 switches. They are both in the same position. Switch them both to the other position. Now, you should be able to arm the alarm with the key. Leave a window open, lock the door and the led should start to flash after a short pause (give it a minute). Open the door by reaching in and opening it from the inside. The alarm should squeal. If this is all ok, you probably have an alarm which works. Try a new battery in the remote first. These directions are based on the Saab alarm manual which is for 88+ cars.
