Try this: turn the key to "run", gear shift in neutral, bridge the positive connectors on the starter and solonoid with a screwdriver. If it doesn't crank, it's probably your starter. If it does, it's somewhere else in the system. Follow up by investigating the things that others have suggested--all possible problems.
I offer the following in case your problem is more elusive: I have an 89 900S 5-spd with a similar starting problem; turn the key, and it just clicks--sometimes. Interestingly, the no-start condition is heat related; high ambient temp. or warm engine, suggesting that higher temps are increasing resistence somewhere in the system such that insufficient juice reaches the solonoid. It'll always start by rolling and popping the clutch, or bridging the gap between the positive leads to the starter and solonoid (be sure the car's out of gear if you do this). I've checked all the obvious things that previous respondants have suggested; even pulled the starter, had it tested and replaced the solonoid. The schem. doesn't show a relay (that I can see) so I think the problem could be at the pin-connector located under the fuse box, or at the ignition switch. My failsafe plan is to install a remote start button on the dash, running leads to the positive-charge distribution point on the right fender and the 50+ connector on the solonoid.
Good luck. Eliminate the obvious things first. It's likely your problem lies there. And in the meantime, carry a screwdriver.
