Two things:
Maybe I've got this backwards, but I don't understand why people aren't using the factory cupholders on the 9000... Starting with the CSE body style there is a plastic insert that goes in the center console with two drink carriers (one "Coke" sized, one 44oz drink sized) and a little pocket for whatever. I've used this in my '88 9kt for a LONG time and not only is it hidden from view, but it saved my dashboard in the case of a spill. There is so much storage in a 9000 the center console isn't missed... and it still holds my cell phone and garage door opener just fine.
As for the 900, the only way to use the Taurus cup holder effectively is to use the top DIN slot, and I'd be seriously leary of doing that - putting anything even remotely heavy up there runs a serious risk of breaking the plastic mounts on the fascia... it probably won't fall out, but it will start to creak and rattle. IMHO, not worth it.
All that said, maybe I'm nuts... :)
