I offer the following idea of what happened and is happening:

1. Carbon from worn brushes built up with within the passenger's side fan.
2. This caused an electrical short within the motor.
3. The short caused excessive current draw thru the radiator temperature switch causing a slight arc trace (high resistance short)across the switch contacts. The AC fan on the drivers side is actually not directly powered thru the radiator switch but thru a "voltage sensing" relay that looks to see if a voltage exists at the output terminal of the switch. Because the radiator temperature switch has an arc trace (slight high resistance) leakage and the normal fan is unplugged, the voltage sensing relay "sees" the voltage thru the switch and powers the AC cooling fan...

Bottom line is....you need to immediately..
1. Keep that drivers side fan on constantly and watch the engine temp until you...
2. replace the fan motor on the passenger's side and plug it in.
3. Then replace the radiator fan switch to keep the battery from running down due to a current leakage thru the new fan motor...if the fan timer fails or if it has been bypassed...
