Lifter noise. Frustrated and tired. Posted by Todd [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just got my 91 900S back together. I had pulled the engine to fix a couple of leaks. One from the timing cover and the other from the head, both oil.
I installed a new timing chain and guides while I was in there and did all of the seals including the rear main. I didn't touch the valve train or take the camshafts off.
Now I have what I think is a stuck lifter (probably due to my dislodging some gunk). The noise was not there before I started the job, now I have a nocking sound.

Okay I feel better. My question is this: Does anyone know a way to find out which lifter could be causing the noise? Should I replace them all, and if so should I just pull the head and completely go tho town on it and rebuild it? As you might imagine I'm a little frustrated right now and any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm now going back in my mind and trying to figure out if I might have possibly bent a valve during the process somehow. It doesn't seem likely as it runs really quite well other than the noise.
Some of you guys sound pretty sharp. Any ideas on my next move?
