Unfortunately, Jak, mechs with your work ethics are very hard to find, and I have YET to find one at a Saab dealership. I realize there are probably hundreds of them all over the U.S., but not in the places I've lived.
That being said, I've found some terrific "Swedish Specialists" here and there, NOT affiliated with dealerships, who work on Saabs and Volvos. A shop by that name in Arlington Virginia was one to which I completely entrusted my Saab. Great people! They did some fine work for me, including replacing my windshield, my timing chain tensioner, a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, and fixing other problems I had years ago. I never felt I was being taken advantage of by those guys, and I completely trusted the quality of their work.
Since I moved to Northeastern Florida, however, I have not been able to find savvy independent Saab mechanics and have had some terrible experiences with the local dealership (it was closed down by Saab last year). As a result, I'm tackling jobs myself that I used to pay others to do. It's been difficult at times, but very satisfying and rewarding. I certainly could NOT have done it without this SaabNet forum.
Anyway, I wish there were more guys like you out there, Jak. I'm sure your customers appreciate you!
