thr front calipers are prone to a number of problems.
1. The slide for the saddle gets worn and causes a clunking the first time you hit the brakes in reverse. This can be remidied by bending the u pin.
2. The parking brake mechanism in the front caliper is a pain in the butt. It needs periodic service to keep it from hanging up the brakes, causing warped rotors and whatnot.
3. 86& 87 turbos have vented front rotors, which are very expencive to replace. They require replacement when the parking brake mechanism hangs up the brakes and ruins the rotors.
4. You need a special tool to turn in the pistons when you replace the front pads. It isn't hard to do, but it adds another 10 minutes to the job.
88+ brakes are much more trouble free, plus you get a rear parking brake, which is more fun.
All of my cars with the exception of my wifes 9000 have the -87 brakes. When they are working well, they are fine.
