Problems after alt R&R: help! (belts, base boost, idle)

Changed the alternator. That went fine and it works well. I also changed the T-Stat and replaced the gasket on my waterpump. (it was leaky, due to my negligent job in cleaning the mounting surface last time). Now that is fine. I also changed the hooter.
Problems: base boost; idle hunt; belts whine.
Now, I suspect that the base boost and idle hunt has something to do with new hooter: I either knocked a hose loose while I was in there or caused a fissue in the turbo plumbing prying it in there. Anyone have other ideas?
I also found a black wire coming from the Throttel and leading under the alternator. It was not connected to anything. What is it? A ground for the TPS? Could this be part of my idle problem?
Lastly: There is a screech, actually more like a whine coming from the belts. They are not screeching like wet belts do, but whining. It is awful, and sounds like a bad bearing. Can this sound be produced with improperly tensioned belts?
Please help. Tomorrow A.M. I will take another look.
Thanks
TM
