Slow window fix Posted by Todd [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I've read alot of people's posts about slow windows. My drivers window was very slow going up, and a little faster going down.
Last night I got energetic and pulled the motor out. Once I got it out I removed the two bolts holding the motor onto the drive gear. There is a small gasket between the two that you must be careful not to tear when taking them apart. Once I pulled the drive shaft out of the gear housing I could see why the window was slow. It was completely full of brown pasty rusty gunk! I then took the housing and drilled the three rivets off so that I could clean the plastic gear properly. The plastic gear has a rubber dampening system that is pressed onto the actual drive gear that cranks the window regulator. I couldn't get this off without damaging the assembly, so I just soaked the whole housing in solvent for a while and brushed it out. I then loosened up the gear with wizard piss and oil. Then I drilled the rivet pins out so I could replace them with the three screws I had found in the bottom of my tool box. Once I re-packed the whole thing with grease I sealed it all up with blue silicone (making sure I didn't plug the drain hole ), and re-installed the whole thing in the door.
It works great! The window goes up as fast as the passenger side now.
The whole thing didn't cost a dime! (an unusual statement for fixing something on a Saab).
Maybe someone else can experience this small victory as I did. Have fun!
