Howdy folks.
Having an issue (I think) with my alternator. Here are the facts:
Bought a new battery in July.
Left the interior light on a cold night last week all night, the car started, though, with some relunctance. After that no appararent problems until Saturday.
Saturday I was trying to figure out whether my central locking control unit is bad or if it's the microswitch in the door (any thoughts on how to determine which one is bad??)
Anyway, I digress from one issue to another...
During the short time I was messing with the locks I decided to see if I could figure out why my upshift light does not work, so with my Bentley manual by my side, I pulled the fuse (it was fine) and pulled a relay that is green in color to ensure that it was seated properly. Seems to have been. My lights were on and off during the course of an hour. Eventually, I gave up on all projects so I could go visit with my other love (my wife). However, I tried to start up the car and it just said "ugh...." and though the lights were on in the dash and car, there clearly wasn't enough juice to get car started. After several tries I gave up for a bit and then about 1/2 hour to an hour later I tried again and it relunctantly started. I went to the battery store and they said it's the alternator, not the battery. WIth the car running it was only putting out 13 volts over the battery and with everything in the car on and the car running it dropped to 12. NOw here's the strange thing... I didn't do anything else other than drive home. Sunday and today I have gone out to the car and it starts up just fine. No hesitation or anything....
Did that green relay have something to do with this? I also pulled a couple of 10 amp fuses to check them, I don't know what those 10 amp fuses are for, but by pulling them, could I have some how done something to discharge the alternator or something along those lines?
Thanks for reading my ramblings.... Hope my auto repair class proves helpful cuz I could sure use the knowledge!!!!
