The Saab dealership service dept. charged me 861.56 for the whole thing, including GST. The breakdown goes like this:
Fuel pump - 646.80
Labor (2h) - 144
Shop supplies - 14.40
GST - 56.36 (I'm in Alberta, no PST)
Total = 861.56
I also found a site at http://www.swedauto.bc.ca. They exclusively service Saab cars and are located in Vancouver. I called them up and they have fuel pumps for Saabs (not Saab original) for $425. I explained my situation to them and they said at the dealership, they replace more than the fuel pump. Apparently, the fuel pump is housed inside some kind of cannister which acts like a reservoir. You may know more of the details. Anyways, they explained that's why the Saab dealership charges more for it. The entire assembly is replaced. The guys at swedauto takes apart the cannister and reassembles it with the new pump.
I had no choice since my car was already at the dealership and would have to be towed from place to place. I figured I'd just bite the bullet and pay their ransom to get it fixed. It was good to see two of my "problems" which I had not attributed to a fuel pump problem go away as well.
