Here's what I've done to date to my '87 900S:
Starting with a searching idle between 400 and 1400 rpms.
1-replaced spark plugs with the recommended NGKs
2-inspected spark plug wires (all good)
3-inspected many vacuum lines (visually)and reattached any loose or disconneted ones (this helped a lot) There are probably more still loose or disconnected in the dash.
4-cleaned throttle body
5-cleaned AIC with carb/throttle body cleaner
My question is when I was cleaning the AIC, I did not notice any "moving" part in the interior. Isn't there supposed to be a 'valve' or something in there that moves? Can my AIC still be 'gummed' up and need to be cleaned further?
After doing 1-5 above, the idle after starting begins at about 800 and stays there for about 5-10 seconds, then it will climb to 1600-1800 and stay there (is this a symptom of a bad O2 sensor?). I haven't taken it out for a highway, long trip test yet to get it up to operating temperature. However, I did start and run it for about 2 minutes at a time while changing my p/s fluid, so the car was at least warm while I drove it around the neighborhood to test the power steering. The idle stayed high during this short trip.
The bugger of all this is that before I did all this this morning, I would at least get 'limp-home' idle of 1200, which is much better than 1800.
Thanks for the replies in advance, this is a great forum!!!
