In October of last year I bought my 1987 900t from AutoBrokers Unlimited in New Hampshire. The car came with a 30 day warranty. All warranty items are repaired by Wayland Automotive (in Wayland, Mass). I brought my car there to be repaired three times for a number of warranty items, each of which was repaired to my satisfaction.
The caution is that the mechanics at Wayland Automotive have a "special" relationship with AutoBrokers Unlimited and at least twice (in my case) failed to point out and repair items that should have been repaired. One was a noisy left rear wheel bearing which Mike Freedman at Wayland Automotive insisted sounded "normal" to him (I got it repaired somewhere else for $200 and the noise went away). The other was a worn out crank pulley which clearly caused a washing-machine noise - amazingly Wayland Automotive DID repair the crank seal because of an oil leak but did not repair the pulley. I ended up paying $400 to have that replaced in January somewhere else - the rubber parts were completely worn out. There was no way they got that way in four months, and the "washing machine" noise disappeared, too.
Neither Wayland Auto nor AutoBrokers Unlimited seem entirely dishonest to me - it is just that since ABL have all their repairs done at Wayland Auto, the mechanics there seem to feel an obligation to protect them from potentially expensive warranty work in some cases. In other words, the relationship between the two is not so entirely hands-off as it seems it should be. My advice would be to have any car checked out by a really good, thorough mechanic before you buy it, even if you think you know alot about cars. I wish I had followed my own advice here. I would then have been in a position to have all this work done before buying the car.
