I'm in a similar situation to Jason; saab newbie with strong intentions yet doubts. I commute 60 miles round trip from Manhattan daily to New Jersey and the only thing stopping me from buying Saab from a dealer or this site is the fear that the car will consume my weekends and even prevent me from getting to work. That said I love the style, power and security of a Saab and am reassured by the previous postings.

Having spent many recent days in care showrooms sitting in Civics and getting verbally mauled by Jeep sales folks I am really inclined to go for Saab but would appreciate any wisdoms. Given that my work is contract based and that we have hit a recession it seems ludicrous to invest in a lease or financing of a new car in insecure times. Also I will leave the US for Europe in three or four years (am Irish) so don't envisage holding on to it for eternity.

Given this situation can anyone suggest a dealership or know of a value car on offer here or elsewhere? The most important thing I'd like to know is where to find a Saab savvy mechanic who will appraise any prospective Saab.
