APC Solenoid Mod.

I have a '91 900 T16 - a few performance mods:
Uprated Actuator, Trent Saab APC (similar to SPG9's but more available in the UK) Abbott Racing exhaust, K&N filter, Rising Rate FPRR, I/C fan....
The actuator has a higher spring rate than standard which enables, (along with the performance APC) a higher peak boost (18.5 psi) and a higher tail off boost (down to about 1/3 into red (sorry - never measured exactly what this is)).
What I am looking to acheive is for the max boost and min after tail off to be slightly closer together - I would like more power available at higher rpm's without a huge gearbox destroying initial peak (I am on box No. 3...) -
One way I have heard of doing this is to increase the size of the restrictor on the input of the APC solenoid by drilling it out in tiny increments.
Some evidence of this seems to be that if this restrictor is removed completely the boost goes up to a certain level and pretty much stays there (ie you don't get a large peak and then tail off in boost under hard acceleration.)
Has anyone out there got any experience of this or is this restrictor performing some other function??????
