....And LOTS of time and patience. I replaced the front shocks on my '85 900S a year ago, so I'm having trouble remembering specifics. I doubt I removed any components that were in the way, somehow I just worked my scratched and dinged up fingers and tools into bizarre position and turned the nut on a little at a time. I was so irritated, though, when I kept dropping the washers and nut through the engine compartment to land under the car, trying to start the furshlugginer thing.
Like you said, the passenger side was easy; the driver side is a bear. Good luck.
