The EXH light goes on at 150K or so to remind us to check or replace the oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold. To turn it off, I had to hunt around behind/under the instrument panel for a long thin pushbutton on a small box near the speedometer.
IMHO, I don't think the distributor is part of the problem; if this were so, you would have no juice to the plug, hence no spark to start up with. The engine started, ran briefly, then stalled--burned off the starting charge of fuel? Likelier.
Re: the other electrical problems. Are all your fuses and your power feeds to the fusebox OK? No shorts or grounding-outs between the power and the pow-ee?
