The new turnsignal stalk is designed to handle the current to the cruise control vacuum motor without a relay....if you hook it up without changing the wiring per the attached diagram that comes with the new stalk, the car will accelerate/go to wot when the c/c button is pressed.
Replacing the turn signal is relatively easy...just remove the plastic trim from under the steering wheel and unscrew the two vertical machine screws that hold in the bracket that the turn signal stalk and windshield washer stalk switches are bolted to. Move the bracket out enough to dismount the old switch and bolt in the new one. Disconnect the old switch connectors to the wiring harness and connect up the new ones.
Then...and this is key...modify the vehicle wiring harness at the c/control relay connector IAW the new wiring diagram or the townsend import site.
Because it's not easy to find on the townsend site, I've bookmarked the page for you.
Good luck!
