Just to elaborate...because I did the same thing. First, yes you broke something, but I was able to superglue mine back together. There is a pin down the stick shift in the transmission that that locks into a plastic part. By turning the stick really hard, that pin rotated in that plastic part and broke it--the plastic is no longer holding the pin in place so the stick rotates freely about 1/4 turn. Now, pull up the rubber boot, and you'll see the white plastic part. A broken piece may be sticking up above the rest. Take it out, clean it up, put a SMALL amount of superglue on it and glue it back. If that doesn't work, it's probably not hard to replace the plastic part and per the previous post, may be inexpensive.
