The best sounding decks I have heard are Denon decks which unfortunantly are no longer made. They were more for SQ (like alpine in the 80's) & do not have all those little gadgets. 20 bit processors vs the much much cheaper 1 bit processors.
Alpine's new stuff is finally getting back to more SQ stuff especially if you look at the F#1 status. Dual burr-brown 20 bit processors, dam!!!! It's their so called price no object line which I was originally told/read $1500 was the target price for the radio. I was willing to pay that when the stats are looked at as well as how simple it looks! Also the fact that I can get 40% off helps :o) BUT!!! I recently read that $1500 isn't the price but more like $3,000, that's the price of a 900T or SPG :o)
O well, Alpine has some really cool stuff coming out like the XM-sattelite ready decks, I can't wait!
Eclipse also makes some really good decks
