Pin 30 is the one pole of the switch. Pin 87 is the other pole of the switch. 85 and 86 are the terminals of the relay coil. Check these for continuity. If so, apply 12V, you should get a click. Then see if there is continuity between 30 and 87. This is for bench testing the relay. If the circuit still does not function it has to be a ground problem. The fan relay is wired differently depending on year. One way is to have the relay kick on with the ignition and use the thermoswitch to carry the load when the temp raised completing the circuit to the fan. Others use the thermoswitch to pull the relay coil 'in' and switch the fans on. This way, the arcing is at the relay instead of the thermoswitch prolonging the life of the thermoswitch. The arcing is what degrades the switch over time.
