If it stutters (misses), I'd take a look at plugs, spark plug wires, distributor rotor, and distributor cap first before assuming something like the AMM is bad. Bad vacuum hoses and the rubber bushings where the vacuum nipples go into the intake manifold and valve cover are the next set of culprits. If it leaks vacuum, some air gets into the intake manifold bypassing the AMM, mimicing a bad AMM.
If they haven't been replaced, underhood vacuum hoses in a 16 year-old car are probably brittle and are leaking vacuum like the proverbial sieve.
I fixed lumpy acceleration on my '89 900T by replacing vacuum hoses and the vacuum bushings.
Fix the simple (and cheap) stuff first before assuming that something expensive is the problem.
