I once pulled off the Jersey turnpike in the evening and on a whim popped the hood and the turbine housing and exhaust manifold was red hot. Interesting, so I let it continue to idle for over five minutes, BOTH radiator fans spinning furiously. (87 900T automatic trans car with some GP6 and SPG9 stuff on engine, car hits rpm limit at 6200 rpm in top gear :>)).
The red didn't change much, maybe a couple shades, so I shut the !@##@$ thing off and went in to get some coffee and drain the pipe.
Point is even the turbo timer doesn't do much in the case of a red hot turbo...
Best thing you can do is put in a lubricant that isn't much affected by the hot turbo. Synthetics come to mind.
