long ago that I bought a new Ducati in Italy and decided to ride it to Barcelona. I was winding through the hills in the early am outside Sienna at one gear higher than I should have, trying to break the engine in gently. With no cars on the road in the wee morning hours, I began using a bit of the opposite lane in the corners when WHAM - a little FIAT popped out of a blind corner & hit me head on. Luckily I hit it at a vertical and horizontal angle and spun underneath, while it jumped over me and my bike. Ended up with a sprained ankle, a bent fork, a crushed gas tank and a $600 bill to replace the FIAT's front bumper.
The moral to this story being - if I'd been in the right (lower) gear, I'd probably have had enough torque to blip around the stupid thing.
