Just spent my Sunday installing a rebuilt SOBSTORY axle assy., which comes with new outer CV joint, new inner U-joint (they said), new boots & moly lube.

However when I compared the rebuilt to the old, I noticed that the rolling elements of the inner U-joint looked used, as one of them had a discolored stripe (to one edge) and another had small metal chips at the very outer edge. I believe this chipping is typical of surface hardened materials; similar to concrete chipping out from impact. Over the surface of these rollers, I would say that 90-95% of the curvature face was OK, without stripe or chip.

Have others seen this before? I think the rolling contact is actually in he center of the roller(maybe center 50%) and the rest is just along for the ride. FWIW the needle rollers under the rolling element did look brand new.

Experiences with this please? Should I return it to SOBSTORY or am I good to go?
