If you have an '88, and the setup is stock, the amplifier is built into the head unit, not the equalizer. The only c900 stereos that had a discrete amp were the '85-'87 c900/9000 setup with the multi-color LEDs on the eq. On those systems, the amp is built into the eq chassis, though is not part of the eq itself.
Beyond all that, why would you want to do that? Starting in '88 (IIRC), the system was 80w - 4x20w *max* output, with like 6w RMS. Most modern day head units put out at leads 25w per channel, with some up to 50w per channel with decidedly higher RMS - I think my 4x47w Blau is 13w RMS. Bottom line, you'll get better sound out of the new head unit.
