first thing to do is this...add pint of marvel mystery oil and take it for a good drive. use all gears but drive lightly until we are all done. 100miles or so is a good figure. then drain the oil immediately and replace with lightweight dino( that mean non-synth) oil and another pint of marvel. drive for a week or do another 100 mile cleanout run. do not abuse. drain while hot. now ready for a good lube. i personally like syntec 75gl. little stiffer than MTL for high mileage trans but still good when cold and available at most stores and not to spendy i think. now drive it for a while. next oil change, change the lube one final time and look for stuff on mag plug. whine can also be caused by too much backlash. all saabs whine a little since pinion is so close to firewall. since it is an S and not a turbo it should last longer but not if poorly lubed.
