This is definitely within the range of a DIY job. Did mine in an afternoon without any trouble. Only troublesome parts are: 1) locking engine. The solutions include the saab tool or other creative tool to lock the flywheel (essential for automatic), or doing it with the car in gear (manual) with the brake on (I used last method). 2) removal of main bolt. Because of the tight clearance, this requires the special saab tool, a short socket and breaker bar (some report shortening a socket), or other creative solution. Here's how I did it: Bought a regular open/boxed end wrench (sorry, don't remember exact size) and cut off open end of wrench so that I could use a pipe about 4 feet long for good leverage. Closed end of wrench obviously needs little clearance to get it on the bolt. Bolt came off with no problems. Although the main pulley is best done from above, it is helpful to have the car on jack stands or ramps as removal of oil pump housing is easist from below.
