Ed,

If you get totally desperate:

Use Nizen Motor Parts in New Haven. Three generations of Nizens to serve you. They did the principal machine work on my 1.85L '72 99 Motor. They used a real hot tank and computerized Sunnen machines to bore and triple-hone the block. Absolutely beautiful cylinder wall finish. They use real milling machines on heads and block decks. No abraisive belts. They also do all crank work on the premises. Nobody fillets a crank like these guys. Jackshaft bearings, rod bushings, align boring if necessary, no prob. The Nizens will sell you Vandervell bearings and Mahle Pistons for your motor as well. If you need a used rod, they probably have ten. Send your head to Ericson's like RJ suggested. Absolutely the best in the area. Your head will be better than new. Three angle valve job and all.

Go to Lindskog Balancing in Bedford, MA (if it's still there)and spend whatever they're asking for balancing reciprocating and rotating parts. They'll also resize rods for you as well as other ancillary machine work. They spend most of their time balancing propeller and rotor assemblies for aviation so you motor is no problem. Their work on my 1.85 was superb.

This combination of machine shops helped me get 88k miles out of my 1.85, which is basically half a Triumph Stag motor and the worst POS ever designed. I would've gotten more but someone who shall remain nameless (ME!) insisted on reusing the exhaust valves. One valve head broke off (they are two piece valves welded together and filled) at 4000 rpm. You can guess the rest. Hey, I was young and foolish.

Good Luck.

JD
