Heater/coolant question. Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Sat, 24 Feb 2001 07:08:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Last night, I noticed my heater started blowing nothing but cold air, and my temp gauge was rising into the upper band towards hot. This is the exact thing that happened to me a couple of weeks ago when a hose burst and my coolant drained out. I have a 1989 900S 16V auto.
This time, however, the fluid was there, and there was no leaks. After the car sat an hour, I popped the hood, loosened the coolant reservior cap, and we drove off again, everything was fine - temp gage was right were it needed to be, and the heater worked fine!
It did look like a lot of pressure had built up in the system (hoses swollen), but I think that was normal. I am not sure if loosening the cap had any effect on making the heater work or not, but it works fine now. Problem is (as you can guess) it could happen again anytime.
what could cause this condition?
thank,
Rob
