Vacuum leaks Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: '88 SPG still not running well..., mike, Sun, 25 Feb 2001 12:25:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Probably your vacuum hoses haven't ever been replaced and the rubber bushings that the vacuum nipples go into the intake manifold and valve cover are equally old. The vacuum hoses dry out, shrink, and crack. The rubber bushings shrink. The underhood heat in a 900T really does a number pn these rubber parts.
These let air get into the intake manifold, leaning out the fuel/air mixture from locations that the Air Mass Meter can't measure. So the car hesitates and may stall. When the car is cold, the fuel/air ratio needs to be high so the car doesn't stall.
On my '89 SPG, I replaced the vacuum hoses and the rubber bushings that I mentioned above. Hesitation when cold has entirely disappeared.
