Jake:
The only cars I know that are exceptionally fussy about power steering fluids are Hondas. If you use non-Honda P/S fluid in a Honda, the system starts leaking madly within minutes. So most of the brands of P/S fluid you see in the parts stores have labels on the back saying not to dump it into your Honda's reservoir.
Saabs aren't picky like that, though. They can use anything that meets the GM spec, which is pretty much everything sold. If you go to your local discount auto parts place, check out the label for what they sell. Usually, they'll meet the GM, Ford, Chrysler, and various foreign car specs. Price is around two-fifty per quart or so.
Some people use stuff like synthetic transmission fluid in their power steering system. That's probably overkill -- it isn't too hard to change your P/S fluid, and the regular stuff will work fine for a really long time. I changed out the ORIGINAL power steering fluid in my Saab just a couple of months ago, and it was nearly 14 years old. I don't intend to let it go that long again, now that I know how to flush and change it! But it's probably a good idea to do it every few years or 60K miles. I've never heard mention of a recommended change interval for it, but there probably should be one!
If you're going to flush your system and replace the fluid, you may be able to buy a gallon container and save a few bucks. I got a gallon for 8 dollars, so around $2/qt.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
