Tommy gun sunroof motor

Hello all,
Yes, the dreaded headliner and sunroof cover. I have the sunroof out and the gear is in great shape, but the motor sounds like a tommy gun and won't push the cables. Could a simple lube do? And if yes, do I have to drop the sunroof holder to do it???? It only does it at two spots, maybe bad cables???
Thanks in advance.
