It's a temp switch that disconnects the a/c compressor when the coolant gets too hot.
Corrosion is irrelevant unless the metal itself is perforated (I guess it could happen) and/or the switch doesn't work or the connectors are rotted off or not making a good connection.
I don't know whether the switch acually interrupts the current to the a/c or whether it's a signal to the ecu indicating overheat that subsequently shuts off the a/c, advances timing, increases idle, turns on fans, decreases power, etc. But I suspect it's in series with the clutch and just disconnects the a/c compressor clutch.
"Just begun to corrode" is not grounds for replacing it.
