in which I lamented the vendors' use of a nasty looking Tripod bearing &
rollers on their supplied "rebuilt" axle assembly. Their price is dirt cheap, you get 2 nice new looking boots, and the rebuilt CV joint. Since the CV boot came factory clamped, I could not check the amount of grease installed by them. I took this one on blind faith (which I hate & normally regret in all things automotive).
The tripod they gave me looked nasty with chipped edges & not-so-smooth needle bearings. I was able to get them to credit me $10 for reusing my old tripod bearing. Mine came off easily just by pulling the snap rings off; theirs required an hour of work including a 3 jaw puller to get off! I certainly didnot make any money on the deal. Now I worry about what type of life I should expect from the rebuild. They said verbally they would guarantee 100K miles; however I got nothing in writing from them.
Given my perception of the difficulty of removing the CV off the axle, the rebuilt solution is easier, but which one is more durable I do not know yet. Guess I will drive the darn thing & post what happens!
