At the end of January 2001, after exiting the Autotrain (Penna. to Fla), my '87 900 overheated within miles. At the time the thermostat and upper and lower hoses were replace (the t-stat syas it is an OEM part). After repair it was driven about 27 miles in the cool evening to Orlando where after parking it promptly boiled over and out without the temp. gauge rising to hot. I took it back to the chain where it was diagnosed as having an air pocket which was cleared by the boil-over. The fans work, hoses are okay and thermostat works. Drove 250 miles to So. Florida without a problem. Never really did any highway driving unitl this week. Car seems to be running great, no high temp on the gauge, but the coolant is boiling over and out after it is parked (this has only happened at night with very cool temps not in the daytime w/warmer temps.) Have just tried a reservoir cap replacement today and it is happening more frequently but with less fluid loss. I have checked the reservoir for bubbles, there are none and the oil does not look milky or have bubbles, but is a very dark brown color. The Saab Dealer Service man says he thought it was most likely head gasket, but could not be sure without diagnostic tests. The cost of this repair is very high. Any other ideas or suggestions. Thanks
