compressing balljoints?
The coil spring needs to be loaded to unload the balljoints. Put a camgear 1"X3" block of hardwood between the frame and the upper suspension arm, lift up the body which allows the upper suspension arm to drop on the block.
Then you can wiggle the balljoint using the rotor or a wheel bolted on or a channellock pliers....zero play is your service limit.
I generally check upper shock bushing the same time by looking to see if the lower shock bushing has pulled away from the frame too much. With new shock bushings there is relatively little if any pullaway; worn or excessively compressed bushings will allow a lot of space and the top bushing may even be compressed out beyond the upper washer. The stock upper shock bushing lower piece also has a rubber ring that goes up through the body...if the bushings aren't properly compressed during initial installation this ring will get worn off and bumping happens.
