first NG900 newsgroup is 2 doors down.
I have a '96. It is fine. The cars are quiet and run quite fast with the 4cyl Turbo. There are electrical problems which MAY rear their head. If everything works and the car has a few (60+kmi) miles, you are probably past the time when these things fail. You need to keep in mind that CR bases everything on averages. I feel that they give good guidelines, but not rules. Please do not interpret their results as hard and fast rules. There are even people that have problems with Hondas out there! From a read of their results, you would think Hondas are the holy grail. THey are not. All mechanical things CAN have problems. Saabs have more on the average than Hondas. If you are looking for a 'driver' with little fanfare, get a Honda or a Toyota. If you want a little more individuality, comfort, etc. and can put up with some repairs, look at Saabs and other cars. If the '95 is clean, is up to date with all of the SAAB campaigns, drives fine and does not leak, it is probably a fine car. I am sure it is not too expensive at this point. The problems with NG900's are leaky front seal on the transmission on some, front suspension design flaws (some of which were repaired during campaigns by Saab it depends on who owned it before and if they had them done). The shifter sloppiness is a 94-96 design. There is a later design shifter which does not have all the play. I think fsik did this retrofit on his. It can be 'fixed' by Saab. If it is a v6, pass on it.
