Steering Boots Continued

Ok after looking in the wheel wells I saw that both of the steering boots were totally ripped. The CV joint boots on next to the rotor look fine. I am going to check the ones that are next to the tranny in a sec.
So how hard is it to replace these boots? Bentley doesn't talk about them much and I am hoping that there is so short cut. Will I have to take my car to be realigned after I replace them?? Do I need the special press to get rid of the tie rod ends??
What should I check for damage, I have no idea how long the boots have been ripped? Is there something that is a must for replacement?
Any Suggestions appreciated.
