Terry:
Before you spin the plug back in, put some Hylomar on the threads. You can find Hylomar in this country under the Permatex name and it says Hylomar on the tube. Most auto parts or chain-type stores will have it. Iget it at Pep Boys. Hylomar will not harden ever so you don't have to worry about some breaking off and floating around in your tranny.
I bought my Toyota with the oil plug threads not only destroyed, but huge chunks are completely gone. There are only TWO threads intact. Yet putting Hylomar on the threads keeps the oil from leaking out til the end of time.
VW air-cooled engine builders used to use a thin coat of Hylomar between crankcase halves. That is as high stress an application as they come because those engines expand and contract like crazy and Hylomar keeps them from leaking.
Good Luck
JD
