I would either rebuild the motor or possibly find a good running used engine. Many SAABs meet their maker because the trannies go bad and the cost of repair far outstrips the worth of the car. Good engines are around if you look. I bet the local SAAB mechanic near you knows where you can find one or has one to sell.
Doing a valve job on a motor with 230k miles is like putting a hat on a dead man. That nice sealing renewed head plus the blower will kill those old piston rings.
If you decide to rebuild, figure at least 2,000 dollars to do it right. If you farm out the machine work, get the Mahle oversized pistons, have it balanced, don't need to replace the crank, get Erikkson's to do your head, and find either a new cam or a used one with less miles than yours, 2k should cover it.
