Folks thanks for the steer to the Audi boards. The Audifans was marginally helpful, Audiworld really is juvenile. Topics- "How to change your oil" -"Polishing exhaust tips"!
THis is a real tech board. The systems are similar so I'll seek giudance here. The victim is a 1990 Audi 100, 5 cylinder automatic 123K. Very pleasant car; could be a SAAB with more refinement. Engine seems to lack power. First thought was bad valves or a blown head gasket. No. Warm engine compression runs around 180 PSI on all five pots. Plugs (though warn) look ok, no oil fouling or other ugly stuff. Car fires right up and maitains a good road speed. Just a strong hesitation between gas pedal and forward uummph. Idle is also a little eratic. I haven't had it long enough to check fuel milage. My number 1 SAAB an '84 900 stick (I'm up to sweet sixteen now, 1993 900S 5 speed) will run rings around this Audi. Once I fix this Audi I'll bring up questions on Check Engine light and a few other little quirks on sweet 16. It is a SAAB after all. Regards PFB.
