I've run 20W-50 Amsoil for years in my Saab turbos and not had a problem.

I now run 0W-30W Amsoil series 2000 in my 87 900T after it was rebuilt (rings and bearings) and use no oil in 10,000 mile oil changes (spectrometric oil analysis says oil is still good, but it collects carbon particulates even with an amsoil bypass filter so out it goes....)

There is relatively little to none 'viscosity index improvers' in amsoil synthetic to attain the 30wt spread...it's a characteristic of the base stock to flow freely at low temperature and maintain viscosity at high temperature. The real issue as I see it is what viscosity you want at normal operating temperatures.

The high 100F ambient temperature operation in AZ would dictate at least straight 30W synthetic or 20W-50 synthetic or 10w-40 synthetic (my choice...good price break from amsoil for 10w-40 marine synthetic that meets all the current spark ignition specs).

If you have an oil pressure gauge you can make a better choice...use the thinnest oil that maintains your oil pressure at high temperature. The
0W-30W series 2000 oil meets saab specifications AFAIK and will also easily maintain low temp operation/initial startup flow for those times you run up to the high country and it drops below 40F at night in the desert. If you find your oil consumption is higher than about a quart per 3000 miles, go to a higher weight synthetic or fix the engine.
