My advice is dump the car for $500 bux and look around for an 88 or 89 SPG or even 90/91 in good condition for $4500 or so, around or less than 100K. There are a few out there.
You're looking at an engine rebuild (or headgasket in your future), rering/bearing job as well as timing chain/tensioner replacement, probably valve replacement, certainly transmission repair/replacement, then a clutch/pressure plate at that time, and that's just the mechanical work.
Fixing the rust spots correctly (new front fenders and/or rear quarter panels) will run a couple thousand unless you're lucky enough to get hit (and then the car WILL be totalled by your insurance company w/297K) and fixing the worn leather front seats (not to mention drooping headliner if it hasn't been done) another $6-700 IF you do them yourself.
Then there's the CV joints/boots, inner drivers, front and rear axle bearings, suspension bushings and balljoints, blah blah blah.
Please don't take this wrong...my 87 900T has around 240K miles on it...it's just that this is stuff I've done in the last 6 years since 133K miles. So it's a hobby or obsession, (well, the SPG9 engine mods are according to my wife), and IMHO you'd be better off feeding your obsession at least with an SPG. One without rust spots or 300K on the drivetrain.
