heater problems Posted by paul [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I had a problem in my 1993 900T16s Conv. whereby the heater was continually blowing hot air onto my foot. By removing the centere console, lower dash kickpanel and other stuff, I traced the problem back to a flap which when activated by the appropriate heat distribution setting will open or close and prevent or allow air access to a long plastic distribution duct which runs the width of the car, under the dash. I found that the flap had come off and was rattling around inside the duct. A hinge strut was also bent, probably through heat, so I bent it back using a hairdryer to warm up the plastic, and I think I got it near as damn perfect again.
After assembling the whole lot back togther again, the flap came off again within a week, and then shortly after I failed to get any heat, anywhere.
When I turn the air distribution dial, I can hear the "pissch-pissch" sound which I think means something is still working in there, and I think that the air distribution settings do work, and result in their intention; ie. setting to top (screen) will produce air to the screen only, and etc.
I’ve never really gone to this level with my maintainence, and usually stay well clear of mechanical work; it was just that I was fiting a new centre console at the time, which looked easy enough, and then decided to 'go for it" from there, using a workshop manual to help with dismantaling.
Any help please?
