The worst case scenario is that you need to either get the head rebuilt or replaced (around $350 to get it rebuilt). It is possible that if the chain broke the pistons were damaged, but you will have to wait until you take the head off to tell. A rebuilt/new head and the motor will be back in business. 72k is nothing for a Saab motor. Can't tell anything about an auto tranny without driving it, and even then you can't tell much. They often just crap out without any warning, so I wouldn't feel very comfortable selling it to someone, especially in this case when you were never even able to drive the car to begin with. You might just fix the head, throw a new t-chain in there and drive it. I wish I could find a deal like this - my SPG is destroyed from rust, but mechanically perfect.
